Barbara Pieh "Finding your Family in Hesse"  (Webinars)

This webinar aims to summarize the many sources for finding your family in Hesse. The sources included are the city hall, the church parish, the local genealogical society or historical society, the city archive, and the state archive with access through Arcinsys. Both on-line and in-person sources are considered. The big on-line websites are briefly overviewed.
 
Barbara Pieh is GGS Research chair and past president of GGS. She is a regular contributor at the monthly German Document Translation Meeting. She lived for over 20 years in Tübingen, Germany and travels to Germany regularly to visit friends, family and to research.
 
Barbara has done extensive research in both the former Hessen-Kassel and Hessen-Darmstadt.

Klaus Kohrt "History of Pomerania and How to Research Your Pomeranian Ancestors"  (Webinars)

Learn how to find where your Pomeranian ancestors lived, which records have survived and where to find them both in archives and online. Beginning with a summary of “1000 years of Pomerania”. In addition, it covers the Pommerscher Greif website and how it leads you to sources in the following locations: various archives, on the internet and/or how to contact organizations holding the original records. The focus of the presentation will be on Protestant church books and civil registers.
 
Dr. Kohrt was born and raised in Flensburg, Germany. He received his high school diploma in Great Britain. After studying mathematics and computer science in Kiel, Germany, he worked at Siemens for 25 years in Munich. An avid traveler, he worked abroad both in the U.S. and the U.K.
